Everything you do is about them, and for them. And I know you know how important it is to have those family photos.
And so you schedule them – maybe once? Maybe never – because the big ass sigh you know every family member is making when you tell them that you’re thinking of doing this. Because moms, let’s be real, it’s usually us who are thinking long-term.
Gina is a photographer and friend, and when she asked me to document her family, I was all in. All I asked her was, “So what do ya’ll do on an evening?” and that was that.

She knew from the get-go how I work, and it was a relief for her to not hear “put your hands here, or pretend to do this”.. No thanks!
I rocked up to her house one evening, and all I did was photograph her cool as hell family of 6. Playing football, skipping, laughing, watering the garden, reading.. Everything that they do everyday, with or without me there.
The thing is, your normal life is so much better than you think.
Those moments snuggling on the hammock will mean so much more as the time goes by. There’ll be a point where all three of them won’t fit in that space. Where her kids won’t melt into her body..

“I’ve never felt this way receiving family photos. I love that the chick coop isn’t cleaned up, the toys in the yard aren’t removed, my wrinkles and moles aren’t lessened. I will treasure these forever and ever.
Be yourselves, because there’s nothing, I mean NOTHING, better than real life.

Hey, I’m Aniya — and if you’re here, you probably already know what you want. Real moments. Real life. Photos that feel like your actual family, not a version of your family that someone else arranged.
I’ve been photographing families for over 12 years, and what I’m always chasing is the real thing. The chaos and the quiet. The way they pile into each other on the couch. The laugh that catches you off guard. The kid who won’t look at the camera — and the one who won’t stop. The ordinary Tuesday evening that, years from now, you’ll wish you could go back to.
I’m not directing your day, I’m documenting it. I’ll ask you what you do on a regular evening, and then I’ll show up and photograph exactly that.
When you look back at your photos, I want you to feel something.
Every single time.
If you’re the family who values moments over poses, and the last thing you want is someone telling you where to put your hands or saying “smile for the camera” shit — hey, I think we’re going to get along just fine.
Let’s see if we’re a good fit. We’re probably going to be friends.

Tattoos are my timeline. I play tennis, read vehemently, and travel the world. Sensual, empathetic, ex-criminologist, pretty good Italian speaker. Slightly irreverent. Terrified of white lizards and frogs. Kids and elders are my storytellers.
Dancing is joy; justice is non-negotiable.
