Giselle and Nathan have spent the last 14 years going to the movies, drive inn or cinema, loving sushi and traveling the world. In 14 years, you get to know someone really well, and it was so clear from this wedding that this was meant to be.
As I drove up the majestic driveway of Halton Great House, I knew this was going to be a special day.
You see, when Giselle and I chatted on the phone about the day, she let me know within the first 5 minutes that the most important thing about her wedding day, was getting married to Nathan. This, my friends, is what it’s all about. Of course we plan to make it special with things that are meaningful and personal to us – it is also about those little touches. But those touches were about the story, not the aesthetic, you feel me?
One of those stories was the blue hummingbird stitched into her dress. You can see it on the right side of her dress. This hummingbird was for Giselle’s dad, who sadly, is no long here with us. He loved photographing hummingbirds, and what better way to remember him, and have him near, than to have a part of him on her dress.
Another part of their story, was that Giselle and Nathan made the wonderful decision to have Nathan’s father officiate the ceremony. Ya’ll, these are the details that matter. Nathan’s dad brought emotion and memories to the ceremony that would have never happened had they opted for an officiant who did not know who they were.
Guys, I’m a storyteller, and while I photograph in a very documentary way, the details matter. What you choose to include in your day is part of that story. Think about what matters, what is really meaningful, and bring that to your day.
Giselle and Nathan, from the core of my being, thank you for letting me in. For giving me the space and trust to tell your story. I know it’s going to be one that’s retold for a long time to come.
All my love,
