I’ve been creating art through self-portraits for years – well over 13 years now that I come to think about it.
I needed to record myself. Like many women I know, we’ve been on a journey with ourselves, a love hate relationship with our bodies that seems to never fully go away. I’m no stranger to this, and seeing myself in photographs, through my own eyes, is really cathartic. I spend my days photographing other people, at weddings, or in my studio but I want to see me, how I see me.
Self portraits are hard, and when I have a moment, I’ll do another post with Self Portraits from the beginning. But for now, have a look at some BTS of a recent session I did. I wanted to try something out. How would it be if I did a series of myself, but in the same position? I envisioned the end result of a collage of some sort with a bunch of those images. I set up my tripod, set the interval timer and went to work. I gave myself 30 photos and danced and played.
I ended up with a lot that I loved, some not so much, but I pulled together 9 that worked well together and used a contact sheet for the final image.
I am in love with the end result! As always, I LOVE connecting with people, so if you have a particular interest in self portraiture, please email me at hello@aniyaemtage.com

The Final Product!
I ended up with a 16×24 acrylic print of this, and I absolutely LOVE IT! Look below 🙂

And here’s the Final Acrylic Print

MEET YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER
Tattoos are my timeline. I play tennis, read vehemently, and travel the world. Sensual, empathetic, ex-criminologist, pretty good Italian speaker. Slightly irreverent. Terrified of white lizards and frogs. Kids and elders are my storytellers.
Dancing is joy; justice is non-negotiable.
