What I would tell my younger self: Barbados Boudoir Photographer

>
I have learned to appreciate BEING a woman more as I go through life. My career was male dominated and I fell into step with what men believe is successful, or did at the time. Now, I trust my intuition more and do what is right for me. These photographs bring out that I can be both feminine and powerful – and it is all woman.
— SH

Ms. H wrote a blog about our experience.

And there are so many fantastic things she wrote, that I want to share with you.

“Aniya showed me how to celebrate my body.”

Ya’ll, when I saw what Ms. H wrote, “Aniya showed me how to celebrate my body”, I almost cried. As young girls, we aren’t taught to love who we are. Instead, we are spoon fed this nonsense of what we should look like. How are bodies ought to be if we want to be beautiful. This is so damaging to our psyche especially as we get older.

“The photographs do not diminish me to an object of sexual desire.  Each and every one screams the power of a woman.”

We often think of a boudoir session as “sexy” photos for the man in our lives. Now while I have no problem, and in fact celebrate and encourage my clients to share their Badass photos with their partners, friends and the world, the point of this experience is precisely what Ms. H says: These photographs scream the power of a woman.

Thank you Ms. H

There is an appreciation of life as we get older. We see our lives, the mistakes we’ve made, the things we thought were so incredibly important that no longer matter. We grow in age, as we do in strength and confidence. We celebrate ourselves, our bodies and finally, our choices – because we know they were made from a place of confidence, not from a lack thereof.

Thank you for showing up, for sharing your life with me, and for your words.

Here’s to life – it’s a hell of a beautiful thing.
