I don’t know quite how to describe it, but it’s when you meet someone, and you immediately feel a kind of kinship with them.
This was Jenna.
Talking to her, getting to know her incredible story, I was hooked from the beginning. I had a few calls with her mom as well, and it was clear where she got her grace from.
Jenna and Hani live in New Zealand – it’s where Jenna got her doctorate (and I won’t lie when I say I’m a bit jealous of that PhD – in a good way!) And this is where they’ve made their lives. This wedding should have happened back in 2020, but, you know, that thing happened adn the world stopped. But life took an unexpected course, where we saw the fragility of time. Hani asked Mr. Gilkes (Jenna’s awesome dad) for Jenna’s hand in marriage, and of course they had their blessings – on one condition: They get married in Barbados.
Done and Done.
Their wedding was everything you want in a moment of time. Jenna told me from the get go – the most important thing to photograph was moments. This was the first time Jenna had returned to Barbados after 4 long years. Her family welcomed new life in her nephew, Freddie. It was celebrating every person who made it from a neighboring perish, to those who flew for days to be there, and it was about remembering those who were looking down on them. Tears flowed, laughs got bigger and louder as the day drew on.
I loved every second of this wedding, and it was a total and complete privilege to photograph it.
Thank you my friends…..
Till we meet again.. 🙂

MEET YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER
Tattoos are my timeline. I play tennis, read vehemently, and travel the world. Sensual, empathetic, ex-criminologist, pretty good Italian speaker. Slightly irreverent. Terrified of white lizards and frogs. Kids and elders are my storytellers.
Dancing is joy; justice is non-negotiable.
