I’ve been an on location photographer since I started photographing families in 2010. I won’t lie, I really hate the heat. So when I got my studio space 2 years ago, it was like I found my piece of heaven. I could actually dress nicely, and not worry about getting dirty, sandy or wet from the beach.. enter the angels singing!
Ya’ll, there is NOTHING like photographing awesome people in the air condition 🙂
One day, a past wedding client of mine (not photographed) said she was thinking of coming back to Barbados and if so, wanted a boudoir session, but on the beach. The sirens went off, the trauma of years of shooting at the beach, getting my equipment full of sand and salt water, extreme heat and (ewwww) sweat came rushing back. “Yahhh, no I don’t shoot boudoir on the beach.” But then it got the wheels turning. Maybe I could do this, or at least try.
I had visions in my head of what a boudoir session on the beach looked like. All I could muster was white sands, sunset, you get it, and once again, I closed off the idea. I then realized, “Aniya, there’s more to Barbados than the pristine beaches it sells”. And ya’ll know, my work is anything BUT pristine.
But there’s a wild side to Barbados that seems to be a little bit of a secret. It’s the East Coast. Not enough attention is given to it, but it’s also exactly for this reason, why I love it so much.
It’s not a white sand beach, it’s on the Atlantic ocean which means it’s wild. I love it, and told myself, if I ever shoot a boudoir session on the beach, it will only be here.
So I gave it a try..
And needless to say, I fell in love, and so did Kari.
After I dusted the newly loved sand off of my feet, I got this message:
“I haven’t felt so feminine in so long, and I feel like I needed this shoot to capture myself in that element. Knowing that Kari is still in there makes me feel so good, you don’t even know,” – Kari
Oh girl.. I know…
