Owning our crazy, complicated truth.

During a break at a wedding I was photographing, she came up to me with the biggest, most beautiful smile and said: “I’m going to book a session with you! I got a referral voucher from a friend, and I’m GOING to use it!” As she touched my arm, she sparked this light inside of me, and I think I was way more excited to photograph her than she was to be photographed by me.

On the day of our shoot, I met her at her car, and she gave me the most heartfelt hug. It was like I was drinking my huge mug of coffee, and ya’ll know, coffee (instant) is my comfort zone.

Photographing this wonderful soul was like peeling layers of a rose. She shared her life with me, and more, she taught me the value of owning my truth. No matter how complex that may be.

It’s incredible what a photoshoot can reveal about us.

She cried during her reveal. I think she too, finally saw, the uncovered layers I saw.

I can’t stop staring at the photos in disbelief.. and I’m in tears right now. I just feel.. beautiful, and delicate, and strong and unstoppable, and peaceful. It’s nuts to say because these are all contradictory terms, but there’s a certain synergy that exists among them, and that’s who I am. It’s complicated, but that’s what makes it so pure and simple.
— Ms. X

It is complicated, women are complicated. We are interwoven creatures, who are full of intricacies, layers, dichotomies, secrets, fantasies, and so much more.

And this is ok. This is why we women are just so damn cool.

So let’s own our crazy, complicated truth, shall we?

Aniya, xo
