This is THE NUMBER ONE question I get in the studio from clients – I mean, obviously right?

What. Do. I. Wear?

Before I break this down, let me start by saying, clothes don’t even matter. Just hang on to your hats, you’ll see. I’m going to share one session and show the variety of images we get with just a few minimal wardrobe pieces. Your mind will be blown with just how simple this really is.

Boudoir Sessions came to light in the 1920’s when photographing women in the nude was actually illegal. Slowly, this genre moved try and represent all that goes on behind closed doors – after all, Boudoir is the French word for “Woman’s private dressing room, or bedroom”.

It’s unlikely a woman is going to be hanging out in her bedroom in a ballgown. This is where lingerie started making its entrance into Boudoir Photography. History Lesson Over.

Do you have to lingerie to your session? You definitely can, but it’s not a necessity.

My clients get a really wonderful Boudoir Prep that goes into great depth about how to prep for the session, and a big chunk of it is what to wear. To save you from reading a ton right now, I’ll give you a quick breakdown.

In my “boudoir sessions”, the focus is on the woman – her soul, her inner badass, and I make photographs of who she is. What she’s wearing is secondary. So let’s talk about it, and I’ll give you some tips of what you can wear to your session with me. Keep in mind, these wardrobe pieces are by no means “a must” for your session, nor is this list exhaustive. These are just some examples from one session!

Lingerie
This is the classic outfit for boudoir photography. This is your basic “matching” bra and panty set that really sets the tone for intimate photos.

T’s and Sweaters
Most people cannot believe it when I tell them that sweaters or T’s (loose or tight) are PERFECT for your boudoir session. Why not? They’re comfortable, cozy, beautiful, full of texture, and they bring an element of softness to the strength we convey in our photos.

The White Sheet
Ohhhh we love the white sheet. There are SO many ways to incorporate a white sheet into your session.

Nude
Fine art nudes are by far my favorite to photograph. These photos really show the beauty of every woman’s body. The simplicity of a fine art nude also works so well with my style of work – it’s minimal, yet strong.

Material
I love when my clients just let me play. There’s so much we can do with a piece of sheer cloth, or some type of material.

So what are you drawn to? Hit me up HERE and let’s chat about your session!

Aniya, xo
