The day before their wedding, we had flood warnings.
But as it always goes in Barbados, the rain never stays. It’s not like April Showers Bring May Flowers here on the Rock. However, there was something looming in the distance, and we were all on guard for an eventuality that we couldn’t control. Weather is something we have no say over, and we have to roll with it.
As I arrived at their gorgeous beach front house at Brandons beach on Spring Highway, I parked my car, and looked up to the dark sky. I usually give myself 10 minutes alone in my car before I start wedding day coverage, but something told me to get out and just go. As soon as I got to the patio, it was as though the heavens unleashed a rainstorm.
The beautiful thing was that Anastasia, the calmest bride on earth, didn’t mind. She went with the flow. Plans are plans. They are great things to have in place, but once you know that no matter what happens, you are going to marry your best friend, not even a storm can stop it. And it didn’t.
We had to juggle things around, and seriously guys, hats off to Artathomp Events for changing wedding venues and an entire ceremony and reception mere hours before the ceremony. They did an absolutely amazing job.
Pressing on, we put one foot in front of the other and carried on. We did the first look and created some seriously stunning photos with Aikeem, Anastasia and their amazing crew of friends and family. We had fun, we laughed, we danced, and Anastasia and Aikeem loved on each other so hard, you’d never have even known that they had to fight through this change.
Anastasia and Aikeem, you are the embodiment of love. Of perseverance, of knowing that no matter what, you’ll have each other and this is the icing on the cake.
Your story will include raindrops, but more, it will include memories of smiles, of stolen kisses, of crazy dancing, and of your closest, coming together on this gorgeous island so celebrate you.
Rain or Shine.

Tattoos are my timeline. I play tennis, read vehemently, and travel the world. Sensual, empathetic, ex-criminologist, pretty good Italian speaker. Slightly irreverent. Terrified of white lizards and frogs. Kids and elders are my storytellers.
Dancing is joy; justice is non-negotiable.
