From the moment I met Danielle and Akeem, I knew they were something special. We talked on the phone about their travels around the world, their love for food, their ability to get lost anywhere, and blame each other for that bit of perpetual disorientation, and what I immediately understood, was that they had found themselves in each other. I could not wait to photograph their wedding.

What I love about my clients, is their comfort level with me, in that they share their lives with me. Their stories, both happy, and difficult, of love and loss, and everything in between, allow me to really feel what they’re going through on their day and so I can make photos that are more than just photos. They are wedding photographs of moments that mean something.

Their wedding was held at the beautiful Gill Hill in St. George in Barbados on a beautiful mis week afternoon – admittedly, I’d never been there before, and as I walked up to the ceremony site, I was blown away. It has a sense of peace, a strange serenity that was so calming.

There were split second moments that spoke so loudly…

When Danielle walked up the aisle, I saw in Akeem’s tear how much this moment meant to him, to her, to them.

When Danielle wiped his tears, and held his hand, I felt this overwhelming love.

When Danielle’s grandmothers hugged her, one grandmother embracing the daughter of her own daughter who passed away, my eyes watered. What a moment this must be for both Danielle, and her grandmother. Danielle’s mom was there, she was all around, and everyone felt her.

There is so much that weddings bring together. It’s so much more than a wedding, it’s a day that is shared among two people, 20 people, or 200 people. One day – shared, moments felt that won’t ever happen again.

It’s pretty powerful, isn’t it?

Aniya, xo
