Here at Aniya Emtage Studios we pride ourselves on delivering impeccable service to our clients, and that extends to our communications with our hair and makeup team.

I like to allow my clients the opportunity to request any adjustments to their finished look once they’ve seen it, so it’s just as important to me as I’m sure it is to you, that we have clear communication between all three of us. Are there any questions you’d like me to ask my client on your behalf before shoot day to help you to understand their desires better?

Now a little about working with me!

The service that we offer our clients here are: Boudoir (women only 21+), Portraiture (women and men), Headshots and High School Senior Portraits

And the majority of our clients are between the ages of 28 – 60+ with most people requesting dewy and natural, but also some wanting full glam.

Since all photographers vary widely on their hair and makeup preferences for their photo shoots, I can tell you that my preferences are: My shoot style is VERY natural.

Makeup: I go for a much lighter (natural/neutral) look, with no contouring. I am primarily a black and white photographer, so blush tends to appear like cheek bruises in post production, so I prefer to stay away from that, or at least go very light. Lashes are always fun, but please no Snuffalupagus lashes! We definitely want an eyebrow fill in, but not too dark, as again, black and white is the medium we are using, we don’t want a heavy eyebrow to stand out.
Contoring is a Big NO NO as it stands out in Black and white photography.

Hairstyling: There is a lot of movement in my shoots, and I like the hair to move along with me rather than staying perfectly straight. So hair needs to be able to handle movement yet still go back to default styling.

Makeup and Hairstyling Trial
I do require a hair and makeup trial with any artists that I bring on to the team. I give my artists the option of either charging me their trial rate, or making a collaborative test shoot out of it with no fees exchanged so you can see how your work photographs in my style (and, of course, so we can get some fun content for everyone!)

Studio Philosophy
Our studio’s beauty philosophy is first and foremost – we are a non-judgmental, body positivity space that encourages every client we have to love on themselves, even if its just for the time we have together. We want to bring out the best in every client working within their comfort levels. I do very minimal retouching, and I do encourage clients to be as natural as they want to be. I promote the celebration of confidence (with or without make up).
We absolutely NEVER discuss dieting, trash talking, controversial discussions, or anything that could make the client uncomfortable. We want to avoid cursing, even if the client is, it’s just not professional in the business setting.

Phone Usage
Once the client arrives, we are not to be on our phones. Please refrain from taking calls, texting/sending voice notes when the client is in the studios, and ESPECIALLY when the client is in the Hair and Make up chair. Emergencies happen, and if this is the case, please take the call, make the voice note, or text in the front room out of earshot. Again, this is in an emergency situation.

Arrival time and departure

We ask that our artists arrive at least 20 minutes before the client’s arrival and be set up and ready to go when the client arrives. Once the makeup and hairstyling is done, we ask that you clean up the station and leave the studio. This is to minimize the people in the studio space when a client is feeling vulnerable about the shoot.

Studio Location
Our studio address is: Bay Street, St. Michael, Barbados, and parking can be found along the side of the garden.

If you have any additional resources on your website or social media channels that you’d like for our clients to check out before they work with you, please feel free to send them my way and I will include them in the pre-shoot communications to educate our clients and ensure everyone has the best experience working together. While I don’t promote before and after photos because we want to celebrate that our clients are amazing with or without makeup, you are welcome to take and use photos of your beautiful work on our clients as long as you ask their permission, and with a tag to our studio on social media. I will be happy to share with you a few photos of each client from their session that you can share with your audience, provided the client has given me permission to do so.
