The morning of Sam and Paul’s intimate wedding at Sugar Bay Resort in Barbados kicked off with a full-on storm. I’m talking grey skies, loud thunder, and that kind of sideways rain that makes you wonder if you should even bother fixing your hair. Definitely not the tropical postcard scene they had in mind when they decided to make it official after twenty years together.
They brought their two sons on a Caribbean vacation with a wedding on the side, and nothing, not even a little storm, was going to stop them. By the time the ceremony started, the clouds had parted, the sun came out, and it all felt like magic.
Sam walked barefoot down the stairs with the biggest smile on her face, and Paul couldn’t stop grinning back at her. Their three boys watched proudly as their mom walked toward their dad, and it was honestly the sweetest little ceremony you could imagine. Intimate, real, and full of love.
And here’s the fun part—Sam had told me in our pre-planning chats that she hated being photographed. She didn’t want anything stiff or overly posed, so we just played, laughed, and went with the flow.
By the end of it, not only did she relax into it, but when she saw her photos, she told me, “I have to say I loved being photographed and I think the boys secretly enjoyed it too.” Honestly, hearing that is the best part of my job.
As we wrapped up, the rain returned—because Barbados weather likes to keep us on our toes—but Sam and Paul, and the boys, headed off to dinner at sunset, newly married and glowing.
For anyone dreaming of a destination wedding at Sugar Bay Resort, Barbados, Sam and Paul’s day is proof: it doesn’t have to be perfect weather to be the perfect wedding.
